Simranjit Singh Mann backs Gujjars
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has condemned firing on Gujjars in Rajasthan resulting in several deaths. Coming down on government action Mann said the Gujjars were only demanding a “small slice of the cake” being offered to many others in the country. “They only want a Scheduled Tribe status. You cannot shoot them for demanding something like this”. Mann said the government must stop atrocities on the Gujjars and ensure no precious life was wasted.
The Rajasthan home secretary today served an “expulsion notice” to Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann when he was at Bharatpur just before he was to address a condolence meeting of the Gujjars at Biana. Before he could react, the Rajasthan police escorted Mann out of the state to Agra.
